Whilst some residents found the presence intimidating, they were otherwise fairly peaceable but this encampment left its mark upon its surroundings and this is where the crux of complaint about travellers in general usually has its focus.
Where access wasn't quite as easy for them they decided to make their own 'improvements' which included sawing down poles and riding their vehicles over the grassed verges.
The two pictures shown here are of different entry points - one would assume these poles were in place as a deterrent to vehicles rather than just to make the verge look nice.
Of course any traveller encampment worth it's salt must have a bonfire!
This encampment had two and undertook the burning of their collections on a small bank directly opposite Great Binfields Primary School.
Perhaps not too much of a surprise, if still a little sad, was all the mess that was left once all the caravans decided to be on their way. Our pictures below were taken prior to a clean up operation which included use of a mini road sweeper that made several passes along the pathways.
