A governor working party lead by infant school members has been spending many hours preparing a school travel plan with a view to encouraging walking to school and generally ensuring the safety of children on and around the school site.

Whilst building work is in progress at the infant school, the governors felt it best that the regulation banning vehicular access for non-permit holders be more rigorously enforced. This meant that during the second week of June, the access road to the schools was coned off in the mornings. Many parents welcomed this action by the governors and it was both further endorsed and supported by beat bobby PC Jim Charlton. |
Whilst many parents expressed strong support, this enthusiasm was however unfortunately not universal and meant that a small minority of parents became quite abusive with an unfortunately serious number of one or two fingered gestures to emphasise disapproval.
It is hardly surprising that we have youth behaviour problems if young children are shown such examples of defiance in the face of reasonable and publicly supported restrictions. Sadly, the likely outcome is that the governors will now be even more likely to spend a significant amount of money in providing a physical barrier at the school entrance using money which otherwise would be available for more creative educational purposes; so everybody is disadvantaged in the end.
