Downland Housing Associations have - after some local public consultation - developed a scheme of local public art, which it is hoped will engage local young people.
Nearby residents agree that youths are likely to be engaged, but many fear that this will be the wrong sort of engagement. Downland, sometimes criticised for lack of local responsiveness, have submitted a planning application for erection of both a sculptured fence and the totem pole on a piece of open space in St Joseph's Crescent. At 5 meters in height the totem pole will certainly be a local landmark, if eventually permitted.
